Stare into the centre of a candle and we see the brightest part of it while it burns. We cannot look at it for too long or else our vision will be impaired. As we watch the flame, all things surrounding it begin to blur and fade together u til all we can see is the brightest part of the flame. We take our eyes off it and still we see an impression of the flame. Close our eyes and we will be met with total darkness, all except for the part of the flame we see, which no matter where we look is at the centre of our vision.
To me this is what God’s love is like…a flame. Once we search for it and find it, we can never unsee it and it is with us always.
The world around the flame melts away and is consumed but the flame never changes. It neither grows no shrinks. Without the flame the candle would be nothing more than a lump of wax. As the candle was made for the flame so too were we made for the love of God.
The flame doesnt need the candle, the candle needs the flame.
So tonight I pray for the flickering flame of the love of God that lives within me to be reignited. To consume me and purify me. Come Holy Spirit and fill the hearts of your faithful. Kindle in them the fire of divine love. Send forth your spirit and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth.
